The Light Thief was a 2010 film from Kyrgyzstan, directed by Aktan Arym Kubat. The film in not about gu10 led light bulbs but is a beautiful modern-day parable concerning good and evil.

The plot centers on a modest village electrician who decides to devote himself to aiding destitute neighbours. Mr. Light agrees to a slightly dodgy bargain with a rich developer who is trying to run for local office. Mr. Light is promised by the developer that electricity will be provided for the whole valley, made possible by the large amount of winds there, the electricity will be wind-generated. The humble electrician suddenly encounters dark corruption however in this beautiful tale of ordinary decency in the fact of injustice in a fast changing world.
The film was positively received by critics, the Montreal Gazette writing of it. “The Light Thief might be a simple story, but it’s ultimately a complex film”.
